Why each one teach one?

We all agree that Education and Literacy are the keys to a good future. India has a population of over a billion and unfortunately, half a century after independence, we still have the dubious distinction of having the most number of illiterate people.

₹8,00,000.00 of ₹30,00,000.00 raised
Hey! We've raised ₹8,00,000.00 of the ₹30,00,000.00 we are trying to raise for this campaign!

Why each one teach one?

Most of you will be able to answer the question “What is special about September 5?”. It is “Teacher’s Day”, the day you had gone with gifts to your teachers. But how many of you know the about the specialty of September 8?. Not many may know that that day is celebrated as ‘World Literacy Day’. And why is literacy so important for a country like India?.

Literacy, simply put, is the ability to read and write which is the driving force to a progressive nation. We are all lucky enough to have got the gift of learning that enabled us to read and write which in turn provided us Value based education. Good education or value based eduaction not only assures you of a good job but also gives you the tools which help broaden your mind.We all agree that Education and Literacy are the keys to a good future. India has a population of over a billion and unfortunately, half a century after independence, we still have the dubious distinction of having the most number of illiterate people

The underprivileged children of India too have got dreams in their eyes and a smile on their lips, but not are lucky enough like us to laugh and learn. Infact, half the children in our country don’t even get a chance to go to school, because their family cannot afford to send them or because there is no one to teach them. What happens if these children do not go to school?. Often, children, as young as nine years, have to work in various trades to support their families.

*In India, only 53% of habitation has a primary school, only 20% of habitation has a secondary school. On an average an upper primary school is 3 km away in 22% of areas under habitations. In nearly 60% of schools, there are less than two teachers to teach Classes I to V. On an average, there are less than three teachers per primary school. They have to manage classes from I to V every day. The reasons given by 3 in every drop-outs is the high cost of private education, the need to work to support their families and the little interest in studies.

“What this all have to do with me, you might ask. In such a large country like India, the Government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of eradicating illiteracy. Everyone, however young, has a social responsibility to help.

Each One Teach One campaign of Y2kTots is an initiative to assist or provide a platform for educated Indians like you to give back what you’ve learnt by teaching underprivileged children or assisting us to provide necessary elements to educate the underprivileged children of our country. The campaign got shaped from our experiences and interactions with these children for past 10 years. We always could quench their thirst for the basic needs of life like food, cloth and shelter, but not their desire for Knowledge or values in life got through education.

Under the Each One Teach One campaign Y2ktots have tied with various Orphanages, Opportunity schools, Juvenile homes, Destitute homes for the implementation of its projects like Shade to Read – under this project we would set up state of the art libraries at various juvenile homes, orphanages, destitute homes, Child care homes etc. This project will have major book donations drives.Sponsoring the needy child’s education Under this scheme we are looking for sponsors who will be willing to sponsor the educational needs of a underprivileged child which includes his tuition fees, textbooks, uniforms and other expenses related to his education.Education camps & Tutoring & Career orientations classes – We would be conducting periodic camps and regular tutoring classes for these children. We, believe education is most important as it enables a child to realize his or her full potential; to think, question and judge independently; develop sense of self-respect, dignity and self-confidence; learn to love and respect fellow human beings and nature; in decision making; develop civic sense, citizenship and values of participatory democracy.

Come!!! through Y2kTots Each One teach One campaign let’s share the same belief and help to realize the dreams about these less privileged children of god.
